Eight years ago, MarkIQ started with one client and one belief - that most agencies were too busy looking good to actually deliver results. Today we have worked with 300+ brands across automotive, healthcare, real estate, D2C, tech and hospitality in 7 countries.
What follows are not theories pulled from marketing textbooks. These are patterns observed across hundreds of campaigns, dozens of industries and billions of rupees in ad spend. Some of them will confirm what you already suspect. Some of them will surprise you.
In 8 years of auditing underperforming campaigns, we can count on one hand the number of times the product was genuinely the issue. Almost always the problem is structural. Wrong audience. Wrong creative angle. Wrong platform for the category. Broken tracking. A product that is not selling is usually a product that is being shown to the wrong people with the wrong message. Fix the distribution before you fix the product.
One of the most consistent findings across 300+ campaigns is that Indian buyers, across almost every category, make decisions based on trust signals more than price. Reviews, founder stories, client logos, before and after proof, third-party certifications - these consistently outperform discount-led creative in conversion rate. Brands that lead with credibility convert better than brands that lead with offers. This is especially true in healthcare, education, real estate and premium D2C.
Every brand we work with uses WhatsApp for customer service. Almost none use it as a structured marketing channel. The brands that have built WhatsApp broadcast lists, automated follow-up sequences and chatbot-qualified lead pipelines consistently see 3 to 5 times higher conversion rates than email for the same audience. The open rate on WhatsApp in India is north of 90 percent. The open rate on email is under 20 percent. The math is not complicated.
We ran an analysis across 12 lead generation campaigns in 2024. The single highest-impact variable on conversion rate was not lead quality, not ad creative, not landing page design. It was time to first contact. Leads contacted within 5 minutes converted at 4 to 6 times the rate of leads contacted after 30 minutes. Most Indian businesses are following up hours or days later and blaming the leads. The leads are fine. The follow-up system is broken.
A campaign that works in Mumbai does not automatically work in Mysuru, Coimbatore or Indore. Language, cultural reference points, buying triggers and price sensitivity vary significantly across Indian markets. Brands that localise creative at the city or regional level consistently outperform brands running pan-India campaigns with generic messaging. This is one reason why a Mysuru-based agency understanding Karnataka consumer behaviour is not a limitation. It is an advantage for clients in that market.
Reach. Impressions. Follower count. Page likes. These numbers feel good in reports and mean almost nothing for revenue. We have audited accounts with 200,000 followers and zero qualified leads per month. We have seen campaigns with 10 lakh impressions and a 0.4 percent click-through rate being presented as successes. The only metrics that matter are cost per qualified lead, cost per acquisition, and ROAS. If your agency is not leading every conversation with these three numbers, they are optimising for the wrong thing.
Across every category and every market we have worked in, the creative that consistently outperforms is not the most polished or the most cinematic. It is the most honest. A founder talking directly to camera about a specific problem they solve. A real before and after. A customer explaining their exact situation before and after buying. Raw, specific, direct creative beats produced, generic creative in conversion rate almost every single time. Indian audiences have a remarkably sophisticated instinct for inauthenticity.
Since rebuilding MarkIQ with AI at its core in 2023, we have seen what AI-powered marketing actually looks like in practice. AI finds patterns in data faster than any human. It personalises at a scale no team can match manually. It runs tests simultaneously that would take months sequentially. But every single AI system we have built runs on a human-defined strategy. AI with a bad strategy produces bad results faster. AI with a sharp strategy produces exceptional results at scale. The brands winning with AI are the ones that started with clarity about what they were trying to achieve.
After 300+ brands, the conclusion is simple. Marketing is not complicated. It is just poorly executed most of the time. Fix the fundamentals. Measure what matters. Move fast when the data tells you to.
